Chapter 10-13: Paul’s apostolic relationship and the recalcitrant minority

  • People who are not submitting to this leadership

  • Explains how he will come if they do not submit

Purpose of the Book:

1. Defend’s Pauls apostolic leadership

2. To give further instruction concerning the collection for the Christian at Jerusalem

3. To point out the need for consolation in the case of discipline mentioned in the first epistle

  • He had to excommunicate someone who lives in sin, in the church and thinks he’s a Christian. They are stubborn in their sin

4. To show that the new covenant surpasses the old covenant in glory

Message of the Book:

1. A true minister of God will glory in the Lord not himself

2. The chief purpose of church discipline is for restoration not condemnation

3. Apostolic ministry is attested by patience, signs, wonders, and mighty deeds

  • He didn’t just practice what he preached but he preached what he practiced.
