in those days I will pour out my Spirit.
Prophecy of the pouring out of spirit at Pentecost. But repentance proceeds revival
Structure:
Chapter 1: The current locust plague
If you turn away from me I will curse you.
Chapter 2: Escalation of the locust plague
Tells leaders and people to weep for the nation
Chapter 3: Future Day of the Lord
The eventual return of the Lord
Purpose of the Book:
To tell Israel that the judgment can get worse, and to reprint because God is merciful
Repentance is an act of mercy… being able to turn away from sin
