Theme: Corruption and Injustice
Author: Micah ministered to both Northern and Southern Kingdom of Israel
Time: 750-700 BC
Not only prophesied doom and destruction but he saw it
Key Scripture:
Micah 3:8 ESV
But as for me, I am filled with power,
with the Spirit of the Lord,
and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression
and to Israel his sin.
God is righteous and holds his standard to His people
Prophet tells the people not what they want to hear but what they need to hear
The purpose of the law is not to earn his love but to tell people to come back and love him
Structure:
Chapter 1-2: Corrupt People
Chapter 3-5: Corrupt Leadership (priest, pastor, princes)
Chapter 6-7: Corrupt Nation (northern and southern Israel)
Purpose of the Book:
1. To convict Israel and Judah of their sin and to show their subsequent judgment
Both northern and southern Israel were judged even though southern Israel wasn’t as bad
Message of the Book:
God hates transgression but delights in pardon, delights in giving grace
He tells them the truth about themselves so that they can turn to the truth
