Purpose of the Book:
1. To encourage Gaius in his reception of the brethren
2. To assure Gaius that John himself would deal with Diotrephes when he visited the church
3. To bear record of Demetrius good report in the truth
Message of the Book:
1. Believer must be willing to receive the brethren and show hospitality to them
* taking care of people you like and do not like
2. Any leader who desire to have pre-eminence will bring himself under divine discipline
3. Christianity is a practical walk in truth and love
