2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord is avenging and wrathful;
the Lord takes vengeance on his adversaries
and keeps wrath for his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,
and the Lord will by no means clear the guilty.
His way is in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Chapter 1:9-2:2: The Doom of Nineveh and Deliverance of Judah
Chapter 2:3-3:19: The Siege and Destruction of Nineveh
Ninevah was the city capital of Assyria. Assyria is the nation God is going to use to destroy Northern Israel.
Assyria is the world power of the Mediterranean world.
Purpose of the Book:
1. To pronounce God’s judgment on the city of Ninevah and her coming judgment
Message of the Book:
1. Divine vengeance comes upon those who reject God’s mercy. Destruction follows apostasy.
Judgement is the only thing left for people who reject God’s mercy
